Painting of Sunrise (moon and venus)

I painted this picture back in August as a wedding gift for my friend, Jaimee. Jaimee is a lot like a daughter to me and I felt I needed to do something special to recognize her special occasion (usually I do not paint paintings as gifts!)

I had it framed (it’s a larger canvas, about 2 feet across) in Portland right before I went to the wedding so I didn’t have any photos of the final, framed painting.

Jaimee just sent a photo of it, today. I keep teasing her that she probably has it hanging upside down in her bathroom or something….hahaha.

So now, my largest paintings have homes…one with Jaimee and one (of a fire dancer in the desert) with my son in Portland.

The idea is that now I need to do some new work, this winter, to hang in my own house. )

I took some pictures of flowers in Manzanita…anenomies.

Used them for some foreground interest for the painting.

Wow…i’m doing my first painting here at this house. this place is MADE for creating art. the spaces and light are SO great….

That being said, ever wake up to the sound of a kittie racing around for an hour, chasing a ping pong ball on a wood floor? Needless to say, i get up earlier these days…

 

So, here is the inspiration for the painting, it’s the moon and venus at sunrise…

I was going to make it all perfect and smooth but kind of like the interesting brush strokes.

i just got the base coat down for the piece, and here is the actual art in progress:

 

trying to figure out some kind of foreground interest or something…i think flowers or vines at the bottom that are just pale and in silohouette…like they would look w/o much light. I’m pretty happy with the colors…needs a little more darkness at the bottom.

 

It’s a present for Jaimee…she’s getting married on Saturday… I thought it would be a nice, calm image for their bedroom or something.
