A bad week

So I’ve given myself permission to be really crabby and bummed out but only for 1 week:

So, somehow, because I had to have a hysterectomy at the age of 40 (trust, me, it was my last, last, last resort) i ended up on HRT or Hormone Replacement Therapy. I took the patch-path and at the very smallest dose…knowing too much as i do about horses, estrogen, progesterone, breast cancer, etc….. These choices are not easy ones. I chose the med that worked, didn’t kill horses and was the teeny, weeniest choice.

So…I HATE being dependent upon any rx and have been successful at weaning myself off everything else by tweaking my diet and lifestyle. But this tiny HRT “dot” wean-off is kicking my butt.

This week has been a big, black blot on my bright, sunny life. I can hardly get out of bed. Why bother? Okay…I’ve kind of given myself permission to be a slug for now…to drive to get my mail at the PO box, to slack on exercise, to not go anywhere…to not take a bath if I don’t wanna, to let the recycling pile up.

There are other things going on, too and, perhaps, going back to being vegetarian + going anti estrodial + the disappearance of the young feral cat I was feeding/befriending + finding out that “so needed” client check was not in the mail + the return of the rain = A Bad Week.

But the lack of hormones paints it all so much blacker than it actually is. Paint it all black….yeah. Lay in bed and feel like a big banana slug and feel like you wanna melt into nothingness… Yup. Paint it Black, bay-bee. Paint It Black.

Perhaps I will have to cave in and go back to the $60 month patch I was on…just another Rx slave with no health insurance…dependent upon the system. Thanks AMA. Thanks big drug companies… Big hugs all around.

Toys “for boys” and “for girls”

Why are we still raising children, from the cradle, with gender bias? I’m so dismayed to see that sexism is still alive and well in the toy box. Pretty, pink, fluffy, household stuff for the girls and exciting, adventurous, brightly colored, rough-and-tumble toys for boys. Science kits still mostly feature boys on the packaging design; play ovens and baby dolls still feature pink boxes with squealing little girls.

What the f*ck? How are we ever going to get closer to a society that celebrates the potential and personality of each individual when we keep making the same mistakes and spoonfeeding this garbage to generation after generation?

There are articles and research being conducted on the subject of gender segregated toys and child development but not tons, like I would have expected. This was the norm when I was growing up but I’d hoped we would have progressed farther since the 60s and 70s.
