Wanna buy some uranium…cheap?

Posted in DIY, science on October 19, 2007 by lunadauhnn

Found out about this site when watching Wired Science on OPB. I wasn’t really interested in purchasing any uranium (geesh, hard enough to get rid of spent batteries…can’t imagine what I’d do with unwanted uranium) but am interested in many of their offerings.

Flasks, beakers, optics, human skeletal models and glow-in-the-dark paint at rock-bottom prices are much more interesting to me.

Real chemistry kits for kids…RIP

Posted in science on July 7, 2007 by lunadauhnn

Chemistry Set for BoysWired Science had a program on today about the disappearance of real chemistry experiences for kids. Being a baby-baby boomer (I’m in my 40’s) I remember mixing the chemicals in those old kits. It was extra exciting for me, a girl, as all these toys were “for boys,” and therefore were always more interesting, dangerous and fun. Although I loved my Gilbert microscope and our erector set more than the chemistry set, it’s too damned bad that kids can’t mix up “dangerous” potions when they want.

Parents who want to provide a richer chemistry experience for their kids can order all of the equipment and chemicals they need, online, from companies like United Nuclear.
